Repeat Prescriptions

Ordering repeat prescriptions

You can order repeat prescriptions online:

  • Using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS app)
  • Using the GP online system - SystmOnline
  • These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.

You can also:

  • Bring the paper form to the surgery, Monday to Friday, from 8.30am to 6.30pm
  • Telephone 01935 812633 and press option 2 for dispensary.  This is open 9:30am to 11:30am Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • Post it to the surgery.
  • Leave it in the Repeat Prescription Box.  Please tick the items you need on the request form attached to your prescription.  Then pop it into either of the boxes located outside in the porch area or inside in the waiting room.
  • Email your request to:- apples.prescriptions@dorsetgp.nhs.uk. Please use the following in the subject title of your email "Repeat prescription request". Please ensure you provide your full name and DOB or NHS Number in the body of your email, along with the full name of the medication and quantity you need. Emails are routinely monitored between 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
  • You can pick up the prescription from the surgery three full working days later or from your chosen specified chemist a three full working days later. If you wish us to post the prescription back to you please enclose a stamped addressed envelope.
  • Patients who live more than one mile from a chemist can have the medication dispensed directly from our dispensary in the surgery.
  • Please note, we will class orders placed after 5pm on Friday as being placed on Monday morning.  This means that they will be ready to collect from Thursday.

Disclaimer

You may receive an automatic reply confirming receipt of your email.  Please be aware that your email provider may not accept automatic replies.

There is a possibility we might not receive your email due to the the Dorset NHS email server firewall. This is beyond our control. For this reason we encourage our patients to use SystmOnline which is a more secure service.

Nominating a pharmacy

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

  • Online, on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
  • At your GP practice
  • At any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions

Medication reviews

If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to come in for a regular review. Please book a routine appointment for your review.

To book a routine appointment for your review:

  • Request an appointment using eConsult
  • Phone us Monday to Friday, from 8am to 6.30pm – inform the Reception routine medication review
  • Visit the surgery and speak with a receptionist, Monday to Friday, from 8am to 6.30pm.  Inform the Reception it is for a routine medication review

Collecting your prescription

You can usually collect your prescription from the pharmacy 3 to 5 working days after you have ordered it. (we are currently sending SMS to patients informing them that their medication is ready to collect - this is to patients who have consented to SMS - if you have ordered for two people please wait until you have received both SMS - Jan 2025)

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine or your prescription please contact the surgery.

Your local pharmacists can also answer any questions about your prescription. They can answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

Prescribing over the counter medicines

In line with NHS England recommendations, NHS Dorset has asked GP teams to stop prescribing medicine and treatment for 35 minor conditions. This allows GPs to focus on caring for people who have more complex needs.

More information here (including the 35 minor conditions).

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, they can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

  • Coughs
  • Colds
  • Sore throats
  • Tummy trouble
  • Aches and pains

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Find a pharmacy

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff.
